The Dutch Fashion Awards 2011
I’ts 4-11-11 8:00h. I’m sitting in the train, on my way to Amsterdam.
Today is the day; the day of the most important Fashion Event in the Netherlands. ‘The Dutch Fashion Awards”. there are Five nominees and at the end of this day we know which designer wins this prestigious award.
Well, as I mentioned, I am sitting in the train. Today I have a goal. It started a few days ago. The stylist of the Dutch Fashion Foundation came to the studio of Mada van Gaans to ask if an actress can wear one of Mada’s dresses. It’s going well because the day before yesterday Hadewych Minis, the actress who is six months pregnant, also showed up to fit some dresses.
After assisting Mada with the fitting, we found two great dresses. We discussed the way she should wear her hair and made a decision about the pumps: beige. And it was my job to find the perfect pump for her! Because her stylist was way to busy with the preparations for the DFA.
So yesterday I went shopping for Hadewych’s pumps. I found two fabulous pumps and they were all excited about them. And the stylist asked me if I could also find some pumps for the Host of the awards, Lauren Verster. They send me 3 pictures of Lauren in great Victor and Rolf dresses, with which the pumps had to match. So that’s the reason why I am sitting this early in the train to Amsterdam. Chick on a mission. .
The five nominees of the DFA are: Marcha Hüskes, Joline Jolink, Conny Groenewegen, Hyun Yeu (ADO LES SCENTS) and Erik Frenken (Avelon). They were chosen by internationally renowned Fashion specialists. So it’s a great honor to be nominated. A nice fact to know: you can only be nominated twice. And in the past Mada van Gaans got nominated three times!!
15:00 Now I am sitting in the ‘Dutch Fashion Awards Taxi’ with Hadewych. I will assisst Hadewych during the Awards. There is a tight schedule and we arrive in one hour at the ‘Grote Kerk’ (BIg church) in The Hague. Then we have to make sure we have our own fitting room. Second thing: getting her through the sound check, hair, make-up and at finally getting her dressed!
23:00 alright! Heading back home, it was a great day!! Left a bit early cause I have to travel for 2 hours! But it was an AMAZING event. The sound check went great and Hade is a great artist! After the rehearsal we got upstairs to relax and get ready for the evening. Lauren was also in our fitting room so I did her dressing too. I found three pair of high-heel beauties this morning for her! And I was glad Lauren liked them.
The team was great to work with. It was a great vibe backstage and next to some stressful moments, we kept up the good work and kept on smiling!
The hairdresser Taco is a great artist, he did Laurens hair very nice, just like he did with the hair of Hade. And the make-up done by a make-up artist of the House of Orange did miracles too! Its a pleasure to work with such perfectionists and professionals!
It was very busy front stage! Sadly, I din’t get to see the shows. But I didn’t want to miss this whole experience, I met awesome people and had a nice time with them.
After all this inside information I would love to let you know how the shows went. Who can tell you better then a fashion professional like Mada van Gaans?! For her it was a bit different seeing the shows, because she knows this whole situation and can imagine like no other what it’s like for the nominees. from the moment the show started, the nominees are sitting down on the front row! Its unique ofcourse, because in most shows, the designers are backstage! And what Mada also mentioned: It’s a great experience. Thers a lot of stress, but it’s a great honor to be noticed by important people in Fashion industry!
Her short note from the frontrow: “Beautiful opening with the sensitive song from Hadewych minis, I invite you. The collection of Conny Groenewegen with warm tints of colour, mostly knitted items and with innovative hair styling was crowned as the winner of the DFA 2011″.
I think these words are a great way to end this Fashion blog. I hope you enjoyed my Diary of a Day in my Fashion Life. Let me know your thoughts and please leave a comment

P.s. Don’t forget to smile. And I really want to give a big shout out to all the people of The Dutch Fashion Foundation, The House of Orange and all the other people who made it a great evening!!
